Budget 2018: Corbyn suffers revolt by 20 Labour MPs after he refused to oppose tax cut benefiting top earners

Jeremy Corbyn has suffered a revolt by round 20 Labour MPs after he refused to oppose a Conservative tax lower that may primarily profit high earners.

The Labour chief ordered his MPs to abstain within the vote – in an obvious try and keep away from offending middle-class voters – however the rebels voted in opposition to the Finances decision.

Within the Commons, a Treasury minister taunted John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, over the revolt, jokingly inviting him to cross the ground and be part of the federal government.

Liz Truss mentioned she might “virtually hear Momentum shaping their pitchforks” at Mr McDonnell’s help for mountaineering the tax thresholds.
